Voting for Miss Popularity
In several weeks' time Warsaw will welcome women on wheelchairs from all over the world. For the first time ever, they will compete for the title and crown of Miss Wheelchair World. Feel invited to vote for Miss Popularity and take part in the Grand Final Gala.
Miss Wheelchair World is by no means an ordinary beauty contest. Rather than that, it stands for an international manifesto of women's rights, independence, self-fulfilment and self-esteem, regardless of their place of residence, motor abilities or social status. The principal idea behind Miss Wheelchair World is to change the image of people with disabilities, to overcome stereotypes and unfavourable perception, and to fight against discrimination, not only in Poland but also all over the world. The event is also meant to foster integration and exchange of information on the latest scientific and medical achievements.
The event will be hosted by the Capital City of Warsaw, with the Only One Foundation (Polish: Fundacja Jedyna Taka) acting as the organiser.
Women on wheelchairs from all over the world were given an opportunity to prepare and submit their applications for the Contest within a three months' time. In line with the Contest Regulations, the jury was allowed to qualify up to 25 women to the final competition. Regardless of the number of applications submitted from a given country, no more than two candidates from each country could be qualified.
From among the applications submitted by candidates from several dozen countries, the jury has selected 24 finalists who will come to Warsaw in late September. They will be offered a wide array of attractions, from tours around the most interesting places in Warsaw, to meetings with inspiring people, to workshops during which they will prepare for the Final Gala, assisted by photographers and choreographers.
The Grand Final Gala and the voting for Miss Popularity
